Brothers Armin and Bernd Daniels are the fourth generation to run Friedrich Daniels GmbH. Over its 70-year history, the company has developed into a globally renowned contract manufacturer of surgical instruments for minimally invasive orthopedic procedures on the spine. The company stands out thanks to its decades of experience and excellent quality ("Made in Solingen").
The project
Growing excess demand and capacity bottlenecks presented the shareholders with new strategic decisions. With the help of a strong partner, the growth opportunities were to be realized and Friedrich Daniels GmbH was to grow in terms of its structure. At the same time, family interests were to continue to be protected and the way paved for the next generation.
The process
Numerous potential investors were identified through international outreach. Acrotec Group, a current investment of the Carlyle Group, stood out in this highly diverse network. With its decentralized corporate structure, technical expertise, and extensive experience with medium-sized family businesses, it met all the requirements for the family's ideal partner. Despite extensive due diligence conducted on the buyer's side by globally renowned M&A firms, the entire process was completed in well under a year and the family's expectations were met in every respect. Armin and Bernd Daniels will continue to serve as managing directors. Friedrich Daniels GmbH will become part of Acrotec's MedTech division and will drive forward the strategically important instrument business in the spinal segment. The acquisition of Friedrich Daniels GmbH is also considered a significant anchor investment for the group in Germany. The transaction was accompanied on the WESTFALENFINANZ side by Mr. Peter Schulten, Dr. Kasim Music, and Mr. Niklas Meyer Vicente.
