Rotkäppchen Peter Jülich GmbH & Co. KG

The founding

The roots of the Rotkäppchen Peter Jülich Group date back to the 19th century, when the company originally operated as a cheese product distributor. Peter N. Jülich took over the company from his father in 1977 and ran it for over 40 years as managing partner.

The company

Peter N. Jülich transformed the acquired trading company into a cheese producer with strong brands, which he further strengthened through targeted acquisitions. In 1991, the group acquired the traditional brand Rügener Badejunge; the products were subsequently manufactured by Deutsches Milchkontor on a contract basis on the island of Rügen. In 1999, the company acquired the Altenburger Ziegenkäse brand and the associated production facilities in Thuringia. Mr. Jülich thus succeeded in positioning the company as the leading German manufacturer of soft cheese.

The project

Mr. Peter N. Jülich was approached by the market to ask whether he would be interested in selling the group of companies. Taking this approach as an opportunity, discussions were initiated with several market competitors in order to find the ideal buyer.

The process

On the recommendation of the legal advisor, Mr. Bolz joined the process at this stage and accompanied the preliminary talks and the negotiation of the LOI from the perspective of the M&A advisor. Once an agreement had been negotiated, WESTFALENFINANZ structured the entire due diligence process via a virtual data room and accompanied the entire process. In spring 2019, the company was successfully sold to Eurial, a subsidiary of the French agricultural cooperative Agrial. Following the transaction, Mr. Jülich was able to withdraw from operational business at short notice and enjoy his retirement. We would like to thank Mr. Jülich for his trust and excellent cooperation.
